QS World University Rankings 2024 released
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2024, which feature 1500 academic institutions across 104 locations, were unveiled in June 2023. This annual evaluation examined 17.5 million academic papers and the expert opinions of over 240,000 academic faculty and employers (Bello, 2023). The results are based on nine key metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international students ratio, sustainability, employment outcomes, and international research network (QS Top Universities, 2023).
QS World University Rankings is one of the most respected rankings of global universities
The QS World University Rankings are one of the four most recognised and respected rankings of global universities. The others are the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy’s Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and US News and World Report: Best Global Universities. The big three—the QS, the Times Higher Education, and the ARWU—are the longest-established and most influential global rankings, outperforming US News and World Report (Bennett, 2023). Nonetheless, none of these global tables provides a specific master's degree ranking, but that does not preclude them from being beneficial to prospective master's students.
UK holds four out of the top ten and 17 out of the top 100 positions
The UK claims four out of the top ten positions, the same as the US. These are the University of Cambridge, ranked second globally; the University of Oxford, ranked third globally; Imperial College London, ranked sixth globally; and University College London, ranked ninth globally (see Table 1 below). All in all, following the US (27 universities), the UK (17 universities) has the most top 100 universities in the world based on the results of the QS World University Rankings 2024 (QS Top Universities, 2023).
